22nd September – Sleeper bus to Hekou

Buddha at Suzhou Pagoda

The sleeper bus to Vietnam border was at 7:30pm so we had another day of waiting around and watching the clock.

We decided last minute to take taxi to bus station as it was easier but more expensive. Taking the bus would have cost 1Yuan(10p) but crowded and longer journey and taxi 40Yuan(£4).

Gave ourselves enough time to get to station but at one point panic was setting in as no Taxi wanted to pick us up, spent a good 40mins trying to hail down taxis but eventually one stopped for Julie.

Arrived at the bus station and this guy who I thought was a driver or working for the bus company kept asking for one dollar as a souvenir and wasn’t being helpful either so started yelling at him and told him to F off.

This Israeli guy who could see i was quite agitated helped me find space to put our backpacks. Got onto the bus and it was smaller than the one we took from Xian to LouYang, worst night sleep ever. Horrible, I smelt of feet, then smoke and also stinky corn. How come the Chinese love their corn sooo much? It’s incredible…boiled corn for breakkie, lunch, dinner and supper…one word WRONG.

En francais:
Joyeux anniversaire Xavier!
