18th September – Guilin to Yangshuo + bicycle ride

Moon Hill - Yangshuo

Woke up in the morning and packed all bags and then saw a frigging maggot in my bed. How the he’ll did this thing get here and there was a bit of blood on sheet, not sure if it was my fat arse that squashed it or it’s been suckin m blood. Complained to hostel people but one thing yo should know about Chinese people is, once you complain, the will acknowledge you by saying OK but not do anything about It. You would think they would be compensating you even giving you a discount. We had breakfast and then headed to the bus station to head to Yangshuo.

Took an express bus tha took 1hr and 30mins. Went through the countryside, quite beautiful actuall with he limestone mountains everywhere. Reason for this trip is to see the Cormorant fishing. If yo remember he HSBC advert where they show a fisherman fishn with birds, yep that’s it, that’s wha we are trying to go and see.

Got to Yangshuo, checked in and hired a bike to tour the town. We went to Moon Hill View, it’s called that because there is a hole in the mountain in the shape of a quarter moon. We climbed this hill/mountain, 1200 steps later we were at the top…good view but wasn’t magical. Man,climbing that was a bitch, felt a little dizzy, legs shaking, sweating and needing a wee but people walking behind us so couldn’t dash and water the plants.

In the evening went to see the fishing it was quite disappointing as It was too commercials and we sat on the boat and these two fishermen were on their bamboo boat, four or five birds swimming along and diving when they saw a fish. The birds have a rope tied around their neck and if they grab a huge fish it stops them from swallowing. This trip took around 1.5hrs and went back to hostel.
